The Course: Package Design Workshop

A new book by Marc Rosen, Glamour Icons (Antique Collectors’ Club, 2011), celebrates perfume-bottle design as an art form. Throughout his career, Rosen revolutionized the cosmetics industry by transforming ordinary perfume bottles into glass sculptures. With more than 200 color illustrations and photographs, Glamour Icons is part illustrated history and part autobiography. Rosen’s graduate workshop on fragrance package design at Pratt is the only known course in the world on the topic.

Rosen, also a Pratt trustee, plans to donate the proceeds from Glamour Icons to the Marc Rosen Scholarship and Education Fund for Packaging by Design at Pratt. He launched the book this month with a gala event at the Plaza Hotel, which drew hundreds of guests including Emmy Award-winning actress and entertainer Liza Minnelli, celebrated actors Arlene Dahl, Cornelia Guest, Sally Ann Howes, Dickie Moore, and Jane Powell; model and actress Carmen Dell'Orefice, and novelist Barbara Taylor Bradford.
