Student Spotlight
Matthew Hernandez
B.F.A. Communications Design ’15
As a recipient of the Pratt Young Scholars Undergraduate Fellowship 2013-2014, Matthew Hernandez (B.F.A. Communications Design '15) mentors the Pratt Young Scholars, high school students who receive four-year scholarships to participate in the Art and Design Education Department’s Youth Programs.
A Brooklyn native, Hernandez graduated third in his class from Williamsburg Charter High School. His connection to Pratt goes back to elementary school when he attended the Saturday Art School and Summer Design programs. In 2010, Hernandez was awarded the Black Alumni Program Scholarship to attend the Pratt Precollege Summer Program.
Hernandez values the foundational skills and open-minded approach that he gained from his early training at Pratt—and the opportunity to share them with the high school students he mentors.
