KALUP LINZY, ARTIST SATIRIZING SOAP OPERAS AND HOLLYWOOD MELODRAMAS, TO LECTURE
Brooklyn-based video and performance artist Kalup Linzy, whose work is inspired largely by his childhood in rural Florida, will discuss his work on February 24. Linzy's interdisciplinary works appropriate and satirize themes from soap operas, telenovelas, and Hollywood melodramas, exploring issues of race, gender, and sexuality. His work is in the public collections of The Studio Museum in Harlem, Whitney Museum of Art, and Museum of Modern Art and has been showcased at venues and shows including MoMA PS1 and Prospect New Orleans. The event is part of the 2013-2014 Fine Arts Visiting Artist Lecture Series, which is made possible in part by a generous grant from The Robert Lehman Foundation.
