Symposium to be Held on Art Conservation, Archeology, and the Science of Art

The fourth annual Science and Art Symposium exploring the science behind artists’ materials, techniques, and conservation will be held on Pratt Institute’s Brooklyn campus from April 2-4. The symposium will include lectures on topics such as “Saving the Ancient City of Herculaneum,” and “Advances in Magnetic Resonance Applied to Art and Archaeology.”

April 2: Science and Art Symposium IV Plenary Talk: The Blues of Antiquity
April 3: Science and Art Symposium IV: The Science of Artists’ Materials, Techniques, and Conservation
April 4: Science and Art Symposium IV: Workshops on Novel Scientific Instrumentation for Art and Archeological Analysis.

Independent Poetry Book Fair to Bring Ugly Duckling Presse, Litmus Press and Others to Brooklyn Campus

The Humanities and Media Studies Department will host several renowned New York independent poetry publishers for a book fair on April 4 as part of Poetics@Pratt, a two-day series of readings and events on Pratt’s Brooklyn Campus. In addition to publications by Pratt faculty, books published by the presses will be on display for browsing or purchase along the walk on the Great Lawn. Participating presses include Ugly Duckling Presse, Belladonna*, Litmus Press, and others.

Alumni Regional Event: Dallas

Pratt undergraduate fashion students were challenged to re-think the form, function, and design of knitwear as fine art for an innovative exhibition titled Organic Matter: Woven Artwear by Pratt Fashion. The exhibition will be on public display in the windows at Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas from April 4 through April 20. Organic Matter premiered at Ralph Pucci International’s Gallery Nine in Manhattan earlier this year. Pratt alumni, parents, and friends are invited to view the exhibition and attend a reception with President Tom Schutte on April 11, in front of the Neiman Marcus windows.
